August in Sweden is really one of my favorite months of the year. Not only is the weather still lovely and warm, the nights are bright, social gatherings are plentiful as we catch up with friends who have been away over summer, and the school year begins anew.
Bobbing for apples
My upper management team and myself welcomed 20 new, enthusiastic staff to our school on August 1st, with our veteran staff returning on August 7th. We completed long days of initiating activities (yes I even made then bob for apples) and training workshops. It is wonderful to now have brought our staff of 50 together as IES Uppsala begins its second year as a school. Staff have been planning, preparing and working together to ensure that our school is ready for the new academic year.
With the school floors polished, and classrooms cleaned, the quiet hallways were soon filled with student voices as well over 500 students started school on August 15th. With so many students, we filled our aula three times over. What a great start to the year! The first few days of school are always the most memorable as new friends are made and expectations exchanged. Welcome all, and best wishes for a great school year together.
