Tuesday March 3 was Winter Sports Day. Despite the lack of snow on the ground, our physical education teachers worked hard to organize plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for our students. Luckily there was snow for the skiing activity at Sunnersta Friluftsområde! The pictures tell it all!

Other activities included: Ice Skating and bandy, basketball tournament, ping pong tournament, dance and yoga, badminton, hiking, swimming, indoor climbing and parkour, kung fu, historical fencing, orienteering, night speedminton, innebandy and soccer, and even working out at Friskis & Svettis!

Welcome to Wine and Cheese evening, June 3rd, 18:00 - 20:00

PTA IESU Uppsala is happy to inform you that the lecture "How children engage with digital technologies and how parents mediate this engagement", by Farzaneh Moinian, will be held the 3rd of June. 

Farzaneh Moinian, Senior lecturer at the Department of Child and Youth Studies with focus on social media at Uppsala University will guide us through the latest research on children’s interaction with digital media and how parents mediate this engagement. The lecture will be held in English. 

There will be time for discussion and questions after the presentation.

Join us for this Wine and Cheese evening on Wedmesday, June 3rd from 18:00 – 20:00! This event is hosted by IESU in collaboration with the PTA and is, apart from getting an exciting lecturer, an opportunity to meet each other in an informal setting.

Dear Parents and Students of IESU,  

Celebrated in over 100 countries! Please join the PTA as we celebrate the efforts of our amazing teachers and staff!  Each day during the week of March 9th to March 13th 2015, we will have an activity to help your child/children to recognize their teacher(s)!  Together with the school, we will also be hosting a Teacher Appreciation breakfast for the IESU teachers and staff on Monday March 9th to show them our appreciation for all that they do. Please feel free to be creative and participate in the daily activities below. If you would like to contribute with some baked goods, snacks, fruits, etc., for the Friday Fika on March 13, it would be greatly appreciated. Let us know by March 6th

Monday March 9: Build a Bouquet- Bring ONE real, hand made or drawn flower to school

Tuesday March 10: Art day- Create a card, note, drawing, poem or song to show   appreciation

Wednesday March 11: Treats galore- Bring a treat. (e.g., pencil, apple, chocolate, cookie, book, etc.)

Thursday March 12: Movie or Game- Activity together with your teacher (POPCORN)

Friday March 13: Color day- Dress up in your teacher's favorite color

WHY

Appreciation is a fundamental human need. Employees respond to appreciation expressed through recognition of their good work because it confirms their work is valued. 

Expressions of appreciation can build mutual respect and open the door to better communication about expectations, student performance, and more.

Benefits of teacher recognition

* The act of recognizing desired behavior increases the repetition of the desired behavior, and therefore productivity.

* Greater employee satisfaction and enjoyment of work

* Higher loyalty and satisfaction

The most important benefit is the effect it has on the education of our children and their well being.

Dear Guardians,

First of all, we wish to thank all of you who turned up last night for the Growth Mindset introduction and Wine and Cheese evening which was hosted together with the PTA. We are very grateful for your positive feedback regarding the session as well as your active participation in the exercises you were asked to do to in order to connect theory with practice. 

Secondly, we want to remind all guardians and students that since we are now closing in on Christmas and the mid-term grades it is very important that you communicate with your teachers and mentor if there is something you are unsure of regarding where the student are in different subjects, or work that you need to hand it in for it to used as basis for the assessment of your performance in relation to the knowledge requirements. It is of course the school´s responsibility to communcate with you as well but to minimize the risk of any misunderstandings it is better to contact the school before the grades are set rather than afterwards if you are unsure.

Finally we want to let you know that on Saturday the 22nd of November (this week) it is time for our annual Open House between 10-12. Although this is a day that is more directed to the guardians and students that are in our queue to start studying here next year, than for students already in the school, we of course welcome all families who are part of IESU to spend the day with us.
