Clash of Houses

Clash of Houses

In the end of September Grades 4 & 5 followed by 6 & 7 teamed up in House teams and challenged each other in various games. We were luck with the weather and had some great competitions!

On Wednesday the 19th of September the school celebrated “Skoljoggen” in order to raise funds for “Clowner utan Gränser”. Thankfully the weather was perfect and everyone had a great time, running for such a good cause and earning House points!

Welcome Back!

A warm welcome to all new students and a welcome back to all returning students! I hope you have all had a great summer and I am really looking forward to seeing you again, the school has been very empty over the summer.

We have had a busy summer, focusing on improving the physical school environment. Stenvalvet, our landlords, and the school, have been working together to improve the ventilation in the school. We have also employed a new cleaning company who has been working hard to clean the school from top to bottom and polishing all the floors. The Home Economics room has been refurbished and Mr Danielsson has been repainting key areas of the school with help from Ms Morrison and Mr Collins. Later on in the year, we are hoping to put up some panelling in the most exposed corridors and we have also planned to refurbish the boys changing rooms in the middle school.

Mondays and Tuesdays schedules and have been emailed out to you and can be seen on Schoolsoft (news section) but please also find Mondays times below:

Year 4: 8:30 – 11.00     Year 7: 10.00 - 12.30

Year 5: 9:00 - 11.30     Year 8: 12.30 – 15.00

Year 6: 9:30 – 12:00     Year 9: 13.00 - 15.30

Please can all students enter through the main entrance and remember that no lunch will be served on this day.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday!

Summer break is here!

Summer break is here! Students have finally started their holiday. We had some fantastic end of year ceremonies last Thursday with different performances and lots of awards. Then finally in the afternoon, we celebrated our year 9 during our graduation ceremony, with music, speeches and awards suitable for the occasion. Now the teachers are wrapping up before they also go on a well deserved summer break.

During the next two months we will be working together with the landlord to improve the ventilation in the school. We will also be repainting parts of the school as well as improving the Home Economics room. This is all in preparation for the 20th of August, when the students are welcome back to school.

Have a fantastic break and looking forward to a new academic year!

Summer is here!

Only 5 weeks to go and the warm weather has arrived. It is great to see the students outside on breaks again.

It’s been a busy winter and spring! I extend a special thanks to the PTA who again hosted Teacher Appreciation Days this term, thanking all teachers and staff for the work they do in school. The Student council has also hosted a couple of cafés raising funds which they are now busy deciding what to get for the school. This term also saw the the Performing Arts Show - Magic at IESU take place for the third time at Grand Theater in central Uppsala. This has now definitely become  a tradition of the school.

Now the all the National Tests have been completed which is a relief for all students. Let us enjoy the last few weeks of term, looking forward to the end of year ceremonies and Graduation on the 14th of June.

Ice Day - grade 7

Our grade 7 enjoyed the ice days last week, focusing on ice safety. A number of students and staff took the opportunity to jump into the water under controlled conditions of course!

Welcome back!

Welcome back to a new term! It was fantastic to see all students again and it seems everyone has a had a restful break!

This term will see some exciting events such as the ice training with year 7, PI competition and a Talent show and Winter Sports Day for the whole school. We are also looking forward to events highlighted by the Student council such as Valentines day and Pink Shirt Day.

Parents evenings are also coming up week 4 and 5, 18.00 - 19.00 on Wednesdays (please check schoosoft for more details).

Now, let’s hope for some snow to lighten up the dark days. Before we know it will however be lighter again and Spring will be on its way.

Great start to the school year!

Great start to the school year!

What a great start to the year! The year 4 have arrived with great energy and excitement, what a fantastic addition to our school. After 2 days with team-building and mentor time, students have quickly settled into their new classes and schedules. We’ve also kick-started our house competitions with the “Clash of the Houses” last week, putting Linné in the leading position.

The adjustment in our rule about mobile phones have paid off so far, it’s great to see students sitting outside during breaks, chatting or doing homework rather than playing games and checking social media.

Parent evenings have started last Wednesday (4-6) followed by 7-9 next this coming Wednesday. Looking forward to meeting even more parents!

Summer is here...

Summer is here, students and teachers have all gone on a well deserved break, the school is eerily quiet and calm. Although these interludes in the academic year are very important I miss the hussle and bussle of a school in full motion, thundering forward on the road of learning and development. Once again it was with great joy and pride that we saw our grade 9 graduate on the 9 of June, having followed them from grade 4 and seeing them develop into skilled adolescents ready to move on to their next chapter in life, Gymnasiet!

I have also had the opportunity to grow and develop through these past 6 years and it’s with great respect for the work at hand that I take on the principal's position at IES Uppsala. We will continue to focus our attention on the 3 IES pillars:

  • Command of the English Language
  • A Safe and orderly environment where teachers can teach and students can learn.
  • Setting high academic expectations and aspiration.

This in combination with our work on Growth mindset and Grit is the key to our success, implemented of course by our fantastic staff.

I wish you a restful summer and look forward to seeing everyone back on August the 17th, with batteries recharged.
